Defies gravity- looks like a magic trick!
Looks impossible, but this bird will balance virtually anywhere- tip of your finger, nose… anywhere!
Carries in your pocket, so you can demonstrate the center of mass wherever you are.
Two weights at the end of its wings places the eagle’s center of mass below the tip of its beak, creating a stable equilibrium. You can even spin the eagle on its stand to demonstrate rotational motion! In fact, by introducing translational motion and moving the stand through the air while the eagle spins, you can illustrate movement in two systems!
Correlates wonderfully to these NGSS Disciplinary Core Ideas:
Elementary
3-PS2-1
Conduct an investigation to provide evidence for the effects of balanced/unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.
Middle School
MS-PS2-2
Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion is dependent on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.
