A wonderful addition to your natural specimen collection!

Also called Sand Dollars, these flat echinoids have distinct finger like frills, adapting them to lower drag when burrowing in sea floor sediment.  As is typical with echinoids, they exhibit 5-fold symmetry which is visible in the star pattern on their surface.
From a formation in Morocco, these sand dollars are from the genus Heliophora and lived during the late Miocene of about 11.6 million to today. This specimen is from the Pliocene, making it 2 to 5 million years old.
